Summary

The primary role of the Engineering Technician is to continuously improve production levels and quality through innovation in the design, repair and maintenance of equipment and process flow.
This includes maximizing the time, equipment is available for operations and minimizes equipment down time.
This position is responsible for making independent decisions in the areas of cost reduction, trouble shooting, equipment/upgrade installations and start-up duties.
The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, problem solver who is knowledgeable in hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical and mechanical systems and has a strong work ethic to improve quality and production levels.
All decisions will need to be in compliance with current electrical codes, OSHA safety standards, Worthington safety and operational procedures.
This position is also responsible for working with vendors to get the best comparable price for supplies and services.

Responsibilities

  • Trouble shoots critical machine breakdowns through root cause analysis.
  • Manages machine control code modification, creation and documentation.
  • Assists in the installation and startup of systems of new equipment.
  • Recommends and implements machine enhancements and upgrades to improve machine quality, reliability and efficiency.
  • Instructs and mentors Maintenance Technicians.
  • Directs outside contractors in performing elec.
    and mech.
    projects and repairs.
  • Drives implementation of new projects.
  • May be involved with the design, procurement and testing of new equipment and the development of procedures and documentation.
  • Manages vendor selection and ordering of supplies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Desired Experience

  • Mentoring and coaching skills
  • Equipment problem solving
  • General systems knowledge (hydraulic/pneumatic/electrical/mechanical)
  • Ability to program, Program Logic Controls (PLCs), Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs) and other level one machine control devices
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems technology that will result is systems being upgraded as needed
  • Knowledge of safety protocol such a lock out tag out and safe electrical work practices
  • Electrical troubleshooting
  • Strong attention to detail and consistent work patterns
  • Ability to multi-task and work at a fast pace
  • Ability to work in a team
  • 3 years of experience in manufacturing environment or equivalent
  • PLC, AC and DC drive training
  • Basic industrial electrical training
  • High voltage training (Level I, II and III)

Education

Associates or equivalent in Electronics or Engineering General
